City of Simi Valley, CA
Home MenuHousing Resources
The Area Housing Authority (AHA) of the County of Ventura Board of Commissioners is responsible for the AHA's policies, finances, operations and general oversight of the AHA. The AHA's primary mandate is to provide decent and affordable housing accommodations for very low income families, elderly, handicapped and disabled individuals.
The resources provided by the Housing Section support the mission of creating a strong, sustainable, inclusive community with quality housing for all of our residents. The Housing Section functions as a source for information, education, and partnership to housing purveyors and to residents who seek guidance toward finding equitable and affordable housing in Simi Valley.
The Housing Section acts as liaison between developers, stakeholders, constituents, and residents, advocating for development of housing to fill the need and desire of our current and future generations. We implement different housing programs that seek to expand housing opportunities through various funding sources. In the effort to preserve its existing affordable housing stock, the Housing Section also monitors resale and rental activities.
As a recipient of both Federal and State funds, the City is required to provide a program to actively inform residents, landlords of residential property, and others involved in the insurance, construction, sale or lease of residential property of the laws pertaining to fair housing.
Fair Housing
"Fair Housing" refers to a prohibition against unlawful housing discrimination against any person on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, familial status, marital status, disability, ancestry, age, source of income or other characteristics protected by law. The City complies with these requirements by contracting with experts that provide outreach and education services, take in and process fair housing-related complaints to resolution, and provide referral services.
