What is mental health?
Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act as we cope with life. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood to adolescence through adulthood and aging.
In November 2004, California voters passed Proposition 63, which created the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA). The MHSA expanded County mental health programs for all populations, including children, transitional-age youth, adults, older adults, families, and especially the unserved and underserved populations. It was also designed to provide a wide range of prevention, early intervention, and treatment services, including infrastructure, technology, and enhancement of the mental health workforce to effectively support the system.
Along with the County, the City also provides resources that benefit the Simi Valley community. The City's Youth Council, Taskforce on Homelessness, and the Police Department serve the community's vulnerable population, as well as the Free Clinic of Simi Valley and Clinicas del Camino Real. Local/regional/national health care providers also play a pivotal role in making mental health resources available to the community.
Below, you will find several services offered by the County of Ventura as well as those available through the City.
