Volunteers are still needed in Simi Valley to assist with the 2018 Ventura County Homeless Count (Count) and Subpopulation Survey that is scheduled for Thursday, February 22, 2018 from 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Sites throughout Ventura County including, Camarillo, Fillmore, Moorpark, Ojai, Oxnard, Port Hueneme, Santa Paula, Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks, and Unincorporated Areas need volunteers to conduct the Count. The annual Count is coordinated by the Ventura County Continuum of Care, in partnership with community partners and cities. The Count is a requirement for every community that receives federal funding from Housing and Urban Development (HUD). This funding accounts for almost $2 million annually to support homeless service providers to assist homeless families and individuals.
Teams go out in the early morning through mid-day to places where homeless persons are know to gather. Volunteers will receive training and are out in the field for a few hours at a time, and must be at least 18 years old. Please consider joining this important cause by signing up at www.VolunteerVenturaCounty.org. This year, a mobile app called "Counting Us" by Simtech Solutions will be used to record the Count.
