Free Christmas tree recycling pickup service is available to Simi Valley residents with curbside trash service from December 26, 2017, through January 6, 2018. Christmas trees placed in the green yard waste container or at the curb on the designated collection day will be picked up and recycled at no additional charge. Trees must be placed at the curb by 6:30 a.m. on the resident's trash collection day. Flocked trees not treated with fire retardants are recyclable. However, trees that are treated with fire retardants are not recyclable.
To be recycled, trees over six feet in length should be cut in half. All stands, steel reinforcement rods, tinsel, ornaments, and lights must be removed to prevent damage to processing equipment. All recyclable Christmas trees will be recycled into mulch.
The Christmas trees treated with fire retardants may be cut up and placed in the trash receptacle or disposed of intact by scheduling a bulky item pickup through the trash hauler. Appointments can be made to pick up the non-recyclable trees by calling the designated haulers, Anderson Rubbish at (805) 526-1919 or GI Industries at (805) 522-9400. Bulky item pickups are scheduled on the same day as the regular pickup day. Residents at multifamily complexes with centralized trash collection bins should contact their complex manager for disposal options.
Additionally, the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center, 2801 Madera Road, will accept residents' Christmas trees for recycling at no charge from December 26, 2017, through January 6, 2018. The Landfill is open to accept Christmas trees from residents Monday through Saturday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. For additional information about the Landfill, please call (805) 579-7267.
