Overview

The Simi Valley Youth Council is an advisory board to the City Council on issues affecting youth in the community and is comprised of 21 members and up to three alternates. Each high school and middle school is represented on the Youth Council, as well as the Community at Large.

Membership on the Youth Council is open to residents of the City of Simi Valley who are in 7th through 12th grade. The current Youth Council term began on July 1, 2024, and will conclude on June 30, 2025.

Applications to serve on the Youth Council are accepted year-round, and successful applicants are appointed by the City Council each June.  The application period to serve on the 2025-26 Youth Council term will open in March 2025.

Upcoming Events

The Youth Council typically meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 5:00 p.m., August through June. All meetings of the Youth Council are open to the public. The Youth Council discusses various issues of interest and concern for youth. For upcoming meeting dates and agenda information, please see below.

2017 Ventura County Homeless Count

Volunteer Opportunity

Community volunteers are needed for the annual count and survey of homeless persons in Ventura County.  The 2017 Ventura County Homeless Count and Subpopulation Survey is scheduled for the morning of Tuesday, January 24, 2017.  A youth survey will be conducted on the afternoon of Friday, January 27, 2017. 

The annual Homeless Count is coordinated by the Ventura County Continuum of Care, in partnership with community partners and cities.  The data, collected through a short survey and observation provides a Point-In-Time (PIT) "snapshot" as to what the homeless population in Ventura County looks like during a single day to help community leaders better understand who is homeless, why and for how long.   

In order to conduct a full and accurate count, the Ventura County Continuum of Care is seeking 300 volunteers.  Volunteers are required to attend training in their community and will be paired up on the morning of the count to canvass areas seeking persons to survey.  Interested volunteers can sign up by clicking here or visiting www.VolunteerVenturaCounty.org.  For additional information please contact Jennifer Harkey, Continuum of Care Staff at (805) 685-4342.
