Community Open House at the Simi Valley Police Department

On Saturday, September 20, 2008, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Simi Valley Police Department will host a Community Open House. This year commemorates the ten-year anniversary of the opening of the Simi Valley Police facility in October of 1998. Simi Valley residents and guests are invited to join the City, the City Council, Chief Mike Lewis and the rest of the Police Department in celebrating this event. Mayor Paul Miller will preside over a ribbon cutting ceremony, unveiling the Simi Valley Police Department Historical Committee’s exhibit of equipment and photographs depicting the Department’s history.

Police Department Volunteers will conduct scheduled tours of the Police building throughout the day. Demonstrations by the Canine Unit, Disaster Service Workers and the Bomb Squad will punctuate the event. There will be static displays of SWAT equipment, the Crime Prevention Unit, Police Recruiters, Police Motorcycles, Mobile Command Center, STTOP Trailer, Disaster Service Workers, and more. Partnering agencies will also have displays including: Ventura County Fire Department, Ventura County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad, California Highway Patrol, American Medical Response ambulance service, Ventura County Probation Department, Simi Valley Coalition, Park Rangers from the Rancho Simi Parks and Recreation District, and more.

There will be a “Jolly Jumper” for the younger crowd. The Crime Prevention Unit will hold drawings for several bicycles, helmets and vehicle security locks during the event. The Simi Valley Police Foundation will host a family style barbeque and members of the Simi Valley Elks Lodge #2492 will prepare and serve the food and drinks to all in attendance.

This event promises to be educational and fun filled. For further information, please contact Sergeant Adam Darough at (805) 583-6929 or view the Police Department Open House Flyer.
