The training is for volunteers to help the County of Ventura complete the Homeless Count on January 24, 2023. Sites all throughout Ventura County including: Ventura, Camarillo, Ojai, Santa Paula, Thousand Oaks, Fillmore, Oxnard, Simi Valley, Port Hueneme, Moorpark, and unincorporated Areas. Volunteers are asked to sign up to participate in the Homeless Count here to allow for planning of volunteer resources.

The count is a requirement for every community that receives federal funding from HUD. In Ventura County, local groups lead the effort in each of the 10 cities. HUD funding is extremely important in the effort to end homelessness and accounts for almost $5,500,000 annually to support

Volunteers will work in teams and will receive training in recording the count. Teams go out in the early morning through afternoon to places where homeless persons are known to gather. Most counters are in the field for a couple of hours at a time, and must be at least 18 years old. All volunteers are encouraged to attend a volunteer count training. Key elements of training are the same in every workshop, so volunteers for any city may attend training in whichever location suits their schedule.

Criteria for volunteers:

  1. 18 years or older
  2. Ability to walk around the community
  3. Have a cell phone to use for the survey: Here is the link to the ESRI training video showing how to complete the surveys.
