The City of Simi Valley is now accepting applications from community members who wish to share their time and talents by serving on the Simi Valley Arts Commission.  The Arts Commission reviews the annual budget and operating plan for the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center prior to City Council approval.  It also reviews recommendations for capital purchases, grants, and other opportunities to make the arts accessible for all members of the community.  The City would like to encourage arts and entertainment professionals, educators, business and community leaders, and those with marketing and community outreach experience to apply.

The Arts Commission is comprised of four regular members of the public; one alternate; one Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center Foundation member; and two City Council members.  The City is currently recruiting to fill three vacancies (two regular members and one alternate member).  The successful applicants’ terms of service will be from July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2024.  Meetings are typically held on the third Wednesday of every other month at 3:30 p.m.

The Cultural Arts Center, located in a historic building on the corner of Church Street and Los Angeles Avenue, first opened its doors in 1995.  It is a regional hub for the arts and hosts theater and dance performances; theater classes for youth; music events, and visual art exhibits.  It also serves as a community facility for meetings, conferences, and special events.  This is an exciting opportunity to ensure artistic and cultural activities continue to enrich the quality of life for Simi Valley residents.

Applications will be accepted until Friday, March 25, 2022 at 5:30 p.m.  Applications may be submitted online at www.simivalley.org/ArtsCommissionApp.  For more information regarding the Cultural Arts Center and to view the current performance schedule, please visit www.simi-arts.org.
