The City of Simi Valley is extending the application deadline to Friday, July 30, 2021, for positions on the Youth Employment Service (YES) Advisory Board. The YES Advisory Board promotes the employment of local youth, assists youth in developing an understanding of the needs and expectations of employers, and acts as an advisory board to the City Council on youth employment matters. The YES is also responsible for two flagship programs: an annual Job and Career Expo and Interview Skills Workshops at local high schools.
The YES programs help to prepare young people for future career success, as well as build confidence and self-esteem. They are integral to the local business community as youth are taught about application completion and job interview skills, resume preparation, and above all, strong work ethics to retain employment. The success of the YES would not be possible without the hard work and efforts of the YES Advisory Board.
Applications are being sought to fill the YES Advisory Board positions representing the following areas: one Community at Large representative; two local business representatives; two local government representatives; one Neighborhood Council representative; two Simi Valley Unified School District representatives; two youth between the ages of 16 to 22 representatives; and one Youth Council representative. Applicants recommended by a Youth Employment Service Advisory Board interview and nomination subcommittee will be appointed by the Simi Valley City Council to serve terms of office from August 10, 2021 to June 30, 2023. The YES Advisory Board meets on the third Wednesday of each month, August through May, at 8:15 a.m.
Applications will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, July 30, 2021. Applications may be submitted online at www.simivalley.org/YESApp. For further information, please contact the Youth Employment Service at (805) 583-6766 or visit www.simivalley.org/YES.
