Overview

The Simi Valley Youth Council is an advisory board to the City Council on issues affecting youth in the community and is comprised of 21 members and up to three alternates. Each high school and middle school is represented on the Youth Council, as well as the Community at Large.

Apply for the Youth Council

Membership on the Youth Council is open to residents of the City of Simi Valley who are in 7th through 12th grade. The current Youth Council term began on July 1, 2024, and will conclude on June 30, 2025.

Applications to serve on the Youth Council are accepted year-round, and successful applicants are appointed by the City Council each June.  The application period to serve on the 2025-26 Youth Council term will open in March 2025.

Upcoming Events

The Youth Council typically meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 5:00 p.m., August through June. All meetings of the Youth Council are open to the public. The Youth Council discusses various issues of interest and concern for youth. For upcoming meeting dates and agenda information, please see below.

Deadline for Students to Apply for the 2018-2019 Simi Valley Youth Council

Simi Valley residents who will be in the 7th through 12th grades for the 2018-19 school year, and are interested in learning about, and becoming involved in their local City government are invited to apply for membership on the Simi Valley Youth Council. The terms of service are for one year and will be effective on July 1, 2018, with meetings beginning in late August 2018.

The Simi Valley Youth Council is comprised of 21 middle school and high school youth and three alternates who serve in an advisory capacity to the City Council on teen related issues. The members learn about and participate in City government, conduct special projects, and advise the City Council on the needs and concerns of the City’s teens. Each year the Youth Council hosts a Youth Summit that is designed to encourage youth to contribute to their community. Youth Council representatives provide activity reports at the City Council meetings. In addition, two City Council Members serve as liaisons to the Youth Council.

The Youth Council meets at 5:00 p.m., for approximately one hour on the first and third Tuesdays of each month during the regular school year.  All Youth Council meetings are open to the public.

Application forms for Youth Council positions are available online or at City Hall, the Simi Valley Public Library, and local middle schools and high schools.
