Overview

The Simi Valley Youth Council is an advisory board to the City Council on issues affecting youth in the community and is comprised of 21 members and up to three alternates. Each high school and middle school is represented on the Youth Council, as well as the Community at Large.

Membership on the Youth Council is open to residents of the City of Simi Valley who are in 7th through 12th grade. The current Youth Council term began on July 1, 2024, and will conclude on June 30, 2025.

Applications to serve on the Youth Council are accepted year-round, and successful applicants are appointed by the City Council each June.  The application period to serve on the 2025-26 Youth Council term will open in March 2025.

Upcoming Events

The Youth Council typically meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 5:00 p.m., August through June. All meetings of the Youth Council are open to the public. The Youth Council discusses various issues of interest and concern for youth. For upcoming meeting dates and agenda information, please see below.

Deadline for High School Students to Apply for the 2019 Simi Valley Youth Summit

The Simi Valley Youth Council encourages all high school students in Simi Valley to attend the 2019 Youth Summit, There's a Hero in All of Us!, on Friday, March 22, 2019, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:45 p.m., at the American Jewish University Brandeis-Bardin Campus.  Sponsored by the City of Simi Valley, the American Jewish University Brandeis-Bardin Campus, the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute, and the Simi Valley Unified School District, this free event is designed to inspire youth to set goals, enhance leadership abilities, and become involved in their community.  Attendance at the Summit is recognized by the Simi Valley Unified School District as an educational activity and is approved as school business.  Advance registration is required and students must reside and/or go to school within Simi Valley. 

Students interested in attending the Youth Summit are required to submit an online application before the Thursday, February 21, 2019 deadline.  For additional information, call Kristin Tignac, Youth Council Coordinator, at (805) 583-6766.  Space is limited to the first 175 students, so register early!   Permission forms will be mailed once the online application has been received and reviewed.

 The Youth Summit will be held at the American Jewish University Brandeis-Bardin Campus located at 1101 Peppertree Lane, Brandeis, CA 93064. The event includes: a motivational speaker; interactive workshops; and small group discussions regarding community-wide issues impacting teens. During the lunch break, attendees will have the opportunity to interface directly with City Council Members, Simi Valley Unified School District Board members, Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District Board members, and other community leaders on youth-related issues and concerns.
