Helping Teens Find a College Major That Works for Them

  • Date: 08/21/2018 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.

These days it seems as if most students graduate from high school without even an inkling of an idea as to what they plan to study in college. With college tuition prices soaring, choosing a college major that you have no interest in, or that won't lead you to your dream career, can be a costly mistake. To help teens make smart choices, the Simi Valley Public Library is offering “A Selfie Situation: Picking a College Major that Fits You” on Tuesday, August 21 from 5:30 pm. – 6:30 p.m. in the Teen Lounge. It is designed to help teens uncover where their true passion lies and what steps to take once they find it. This workshop is for ages 14 and up.

The presenter will be Shequeta Smith, CEO of Shero Comics. Shequeta has spent the past decade working in both Corporate America (Coca-Cola, Nike) and Hollywood (Everybody Hates Chris, Project Greenlight). Most recently, she added Historymaking Entrepreneur to her resume after launching her start-up company Shero Comics. Shequeta is a positively entertaining speaker that adds humor, inspiration and a wealth of information to any stage that she steps on.

“It wasn't until my senior year in college, after a study abroad trip to Korea, that I finally discovered that writing about interesting people was my true passion”, Ms. Smith explains. “I wish I had learned that much earlier. It would have saved me a lot of time and money.”
